Definition of hit

A successful retrieval of data from a cache rather than from the slower hard disk or RAM.

A single action (for example, a click on an advertisement) taken by a customer at a Web site that results in one line of data being added to the Web server log file.

A line of code executed by a test.

As used in reference to the world wide web, hit means a single request from a web browser for a single item from a web server
