The International Mother Earth Day was observed on 22 April 2017 all over the world.

The theme to your year is Environmental & Climate Literacy. This year's theme highlights the truth that education is the foundation for progress. Society today requires a global citizenry fluent from the concepts of global climate change and cognizant of its unprecedented threat to earth. In addition, environmental and climate literacy will be the engine not simply for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies furthermore accelerating green technologies and jobs.

The International Mother Earth Day recognises which your Earth and your ecosystems provide its inhabitants with life and sustenance.

This also aims to increase awareness that humans use a collective responsibility promoting harmony with nature so to balance the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations.

Background

Earth Day was celebrated from the United States in 1970 and was organised with the Earth Day Network. Its mission ended up being to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide so to mobilize it the perfect vehicle to create a nourishing, sustainable environment.

However, in 2009 the United Nations General Assembly established the International Mother Earth Day under Resolution A/RES/63/278. The Resolution was introduced by The Plurinational State of Bolivia and was endorsed by over 50 member states.
