The correct sequence of the zones seen in the root tip is: CBEAD i.e. root cap zone, zone of meristems, zone of elongation, root hair zone and zone of maturation. Root cap zone protects the tender apex of the root as it makes its way through the soil. Zone of meristems have cells of very small size, thin walled and with dense protoplasm. They divide repeatedly. The cells in zone of elongation undergo rapid elongation and enlargement and are responsible for the growth of the roots in length. Root hair region is called the piliferous zone. In cell maturation zone, secondary growth takes place. It is the area of origin of lateral roots.
